Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, was founded on January 16, 1920, at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Five visionary women—Arizona Cleaver Stemons, Pearl Anna Neal, Myrtle Tyler Faithful, Viola Tyler Goings, and Fannie Pettie Watts—established the organization with a mission to create a new kind of Greek-letter group focused on addressing real societal needs and promoting the highest standards of academic excellence.

A defining feature of Zeta Phi Beta is its unique constitutional bond with Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated. This partnership makes them the first and only constitutionally bound brother-sister organizations in the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), committing both organizations to unity of purpose, mutual respect, and shared community service.

Since its founding, the Sorority has expanded to hundreds of chapters globally, actively advancing its mission through community service, educational programs, and social advocacy. Zeta is a trailblazer in leadership and service, with signature initiatives such as Z-HOPE (Zetas Helping Other People Excel) and its long-standing partnership with the March of Dimes through the Stork’s Nest program.
